For those of you just joining us, every month my friend Juli and I make a mixtape for each other. Our music tastes are both really really expansive. Like, insane expansive. And we're open to everything so really we're the ideal candidates for this game. We pick 20 tracks each month, and then spend careful time sorting and ordering and making sure the tracks go together. Then we make artwork and exchange them on the first friday of each month. I mean, basically we spend way too much time on these. But they're mutually appreciated. Anyway, here is the mixtape I made this month. Let me know what you think if you want.

First and foremost! THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR HELPING MY SISTER. She and I both appreciate it so much. You are all so very very awesome. Yay.

NOW. ON TO THE POST.

My friend Juli and I like music about the same amount. And we both have the same weird random ass tastes. Actually, last.fm thinks we're 100% compatible, musically [rare].

Anyway, we were talking about how we needed summer time mixes for things like mowing the lawn, or just generally going out and enjoying summer. This is the one I made for her! I decided to share it in case any of you wanted to you know, listen and enjoy. So here it is. Enjoy. If anyone wants to hear / see Juli's, lemme know!

The Concept: Juli and I were discussing the lost art form of a true mix tape. From that conversation sprouted the idea of making virtual mix tapes. Sure they're not on actual tapes, but the rules remain the same; strategic planning of each side so the songs do not run over the allowed time of 30mins per side.

SO. This month's is ALL Covers. I think most of them are really different and interesting variations on the original. One or two are really similar... but done better harmonically.

I realize that many of you may not know some of the originals.

So here's links to mp3's for each one.
Cyndi Lauper - Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
MIA - Paper Planes
Weezer - Buddy Holly
Buddy Holly - Not Fade Away [See why I picked that order now? Huh?]
White Stripes - My Doorbell
Michael Jackson - Thriller
Snoop Dogg - Gin and Juice
Notorious B.I.G. - Hypnotize
Madonna - Like A Prayer
Phantom Planet - California
Katy Perry - I Kissed A Girl
Public Enemy - Bring The Noise
Wham - Wake Me Up Before You Go Go
The Arrows - I Love Rock and Roll [THATS RIGHT. JOAN JETT DID NOT WRITE THIS.]
Nena - 99 Red Balloons [This is one of those situations where the original is so god awful it makes you hurt. I'd check out the goldfinger cover too. Oh, and its originally in German, and 99 Luft Balloons, but heres the English version]
Counting Crows - Colorblind
cptntiller: (Baloo!)

This month includes a lot of songs EVERYONE should know. If you don't know Johnny B. Goode, or Shout for example... who are you... and where have you been? It has a lot of older songs, but some new ones as well. Even one classical piece.

Enjoy!

[Also, Rock The Banjos is an AWESOME mash-up]
